First Impressions

Say it slowly and you’ll get it: de-sign-ist dream. Harry and I came up with the name of this blog on our way in to Jerusalem one morning. And we were stoked. He because it was an uber-witty pun where the Zionist Dream is transformed into a blog on design and aesthetics in the holy land. Me because it reflected my long-standing dream to have the talent or skills for art, craft and/or design. And though I can sew basic patterns or household items (curtains are my thang) on a B+ level, I’m really only a bystander - admiring art and design from afar.

My eyes are the most active tools I have, appreciating beauty, complexity and expression wherever it inspires me. Enter this blog. I’m a voyeur on a voyage through the art and design of everyday living in Israel. My definition of design and art are loose: anything aesthetically pleasing, inspiring and inspired qualifies. And the material or media will run the gamut - from architecture and industrial design to print media and photography to jewelry and handicrafts. I hope to demonstrate the depth, range and color of Israeli art and design. What attracts, engages or amuses me. And I hope it will do the same with you.
