The Fleas Come Out at Night

June 7th, 2007 by Ziva · No Comments

Given that we live in the Middle East, outdoor flea markets are a bit tricky. You either have to wake up early to sift through old prints and textiles before the summer heat takes full effect or risk dehydration while searching for that perfect end table. Not to mention how hard it is to haggle when your mouth is dry and armpits are soaked. It always seems strange to me how the vendors are never weakened by the weather. Well, the tables are now turned.

Starting tonight, and continuing every Thursday night in June, Jaffa’s legendary Friday Antique Flea market will be open for business. Located on Sderot Yerushalayim , the usual flea market goodies - which include old furniture, prints, textiles, lamps, glassware, clothes and carpets - will sprawl out onto nearby streets with exhibitions of local photographers and artists, performances by street entertainers and local bands, and an outdoor coffee house. The event starts at 8pm.

I recommend using public transportation or parking in nearby South Tel Aviv and walking over since parking is usually limited and probably even further restricted because of the happening.

Happy (night) hunting!
