Beyond it's really bad environmental rap, IKEA tends to trawl around last year design students, offering them peanuts to sell rights to their designs. I had more than one friend who were offered $1,000 (yes, that's it) for rights to their school project designs.

IKEA is temporary relief for poor students who want to feel like humans (while in dorms or without pennies to rub together). As adults, we should refrain from buying IKEA's products - which by design are made to throw away . . .

Hi Ziva,

Did not know this about Ikea and glad that you've brought it to my attention. What a bummer. Look forward to your upcoming posts on Israeli artisans and how to find them.

All the best in 5770.

Hi Tali, What a small world - I just came across your blog (was it also through Ohdeedoh or Apartment Therapy?) and fell in love with your EcoKidsCrafts projects. From there rolled onto your other blogs, including your Rosh Hashana posts. How great to welcome you as a reader! I'm a subscribed reader on yours as well. Thanks for the encouragement and related link. Amazing how much 'stuff' we collect and shlep with us... Shana tova to you and yours as well, Z
